Do You Know Where Most of Your Forklift Incidents are Occurring?
SIERA.AI released this week an update with key new features. One key new feature we talked about which is the Password Policy. The one we will focus on today is the graphics-based heat map for impacts and near misses. We’re focusing on impacts and near misses as these are the beginning stories of an accident, and the heat map is a chapter in the story. Let us take a further look.
What is a Heat Map for Impacts and Near Misses?
Within the SIERA.AI telemetry Dashboard, there is a library of graphics. This is where you will find the heat map along with many other informative graphics. The heat map is a real-time report of where it will reveal where the cluster of incidents reside in a particular location.
Each heat map report can tell a different story. The heat map for impacts may be in a different location as the near misses. That’s because impacts means that the lift truck has touched either a person, another piece of equipment or an object such as a racking system. A near miss heat map are those almost an accident and this map indicates where areas are in the beginning stages of maturity. If nothing is done about the area where the near misses are occurring, then it will grow and mature into a more serious matter where an incident is likely to occur.
Using Our Other Reports to Tell a Deeper Story
The SIERA.AI forklift safety system automatically tracks and reports on impacts and near misses. Take the next step and view which asset(s) are involved in an impact and near miss. Our reports will specify what time of day and night the impacts and near misses are occurring. Now use the GPS coordinates we automatically give you, combined with the graphical heat map of where impacts and near misses are occurring, and you have a the evidence necessary to take actionable steps to correct safety issues in the facility.
What Can You Do with the Heat Map for Impacts and Near Misses?
This can be used in a couple of different ways. When you use the heat map alone or in conjunction with the other reports, the safety professionals can go to the area in question, analyze the situation and take corrective action. When actions are taken, go back to the reports to observe any differences. Adjustments can continue to be made until the desired outcome is achieved.
The next benefit is understanding the actions of the forklift driver. If you find through your analysis and investigation that there is corrective action that can be taken for the forklift driver with tailored training, you will know exactly what areas to focus on. This will help to reduce these actions from occurring again in the future.
The Forklift Safety System
SIERA.AI’s Forklift Safety System includes these new features and is easily installed remotely. The Customer Support Team sends you an email notifying of the new update. Either your safety professionals or the forklift driver presses the down arrow key on the tablet which initiates the install. No other action is required. The forklift operator continues with its forklift inspection checklist when their shift begins or ends. The safety professional will now be able to begin collecting data for the heat maps and can use them for each asset for a specified time period.
