Safety + Health magazine reported that there are some vehicles with pedestrian detection or pedestrian sensing automation doesn’t work when it comes to high reflective clothing. The pedestrian detection for cars can’t recognize it and calls it a ‘blind spot’. Is pedestrian detection on forklifts better than cars?

The answer is a yes. The pedestrian detection system on SIERA AI’s forklift safety system doesn’t care what the person is wearing including hard hats, steel toe work boots, reflective vests and the rest. Our AI forklift safety system detects and identifies people that are even bending over, behind a box where all that can be seen is a finger or an elbow. That’s what the power and intelligence of AI for forklift safety.

It takes it a step further by separately identifying objects. Just like a pedestrian, when an object comes within the danger zone distance from the forklift, the AI forklift safety system will notify the forklift operator that an object is in its travel path and to take corrective action. Now, we can take this one step further. If the forklift operator decides to NOT listen to the forklift safety system, it will automatically override the driver and begin to slow down so to avoid an accident or collision with the object or person.
