SIERA.AI Telemetry Dashboard Results from January through October 2022 Recap
Unauthorized forklift access is a danger to those who are not trained on a forklift and have a high risk of injury or even death. We took a look at SIERA.AI’s telemetry Dashboard to find out how many times the forklift safety system identified and stopped unauthorized forklift attempts by our customers. Let’s take a look at the process and results.
What is Unauthorized Forklift?
Simply stated, unauthorized forklift means operating a forklift without permission. If an individual is not received hands-on training and is certified to operate the forklift, then the individual is operating an unauthorized forklift. This can include workers within the company or people that obtain access to the forklift on company property with or without permission to be on the company’s property.
What Happens with Unauthorized Access?
In our weekly email (sign up here for our newsletter), we discuss the latest forklift accident and its causes amongst other topics. Here are a couple stories that we reported on with unauthorized access.
Donuts on a Forklift – After business hours, a couple kids broke into the locked fenced in yard and decided to have a little fun on the forklift. Because the forklift doesn’t have forklift access control, the teens started the forklift and drove recklessly in the yard. With numerous sharp turns, the forklift turned over and landed on the teen.
Bring the Family to Work – A couple stopped in at the warehouse where they work and brought their two little children with on the visit. While the parents were occupied with their work, the children climbed onto the forklift and started the machine. The forklift was jarred and one of the children fell off. His sibling was unable to control the forklift and rolled over his brother. He did not make it. This is why forklift access control is vital to every company utilizing a forklift truck.
Understanding the Unauthorized Forklift Results
Let’s go to the numbers. Unauthorized forklift tracked 51,645 from January 1, 2022 until September 30, 2022. This means there were between 141 and 142 unauthorized forklift each day between January and September. We’re not even at the end of the year.
The highest unauthorized forklift was on September 8, 2022 with 417 people attempting to access the lift truck. The second highest was on May 5, 2022 with 369 attempts. If one of those people obtained access, there’s a high chance of injury or death.
This is Why…
This is why it is absolutely critical that all forklifts be equipped with forklift access control along with the telemetry Dashboard by SIERA.AI. Danger doesn’t always mean a moving forklift. Forklift access control is when the forklift is stationary. It’s when no one is around and the forklift standing there all alone is tempting.
