Reduce Stress for Workers and Operators with a Forklift Safety System
The Journal of the American Heart Association published a research article in mid August discussing the psychosocial stressors at work. This was an 18 year long study. They found that work related stress may heighten A-fib later in life. To be clear, A-fib is when there is there’s an irregular heartbeat which can lead to strokes, cardiovascular disease and more. The study looked at medical records for approximately 6,000 white collar workers over an 18 year period. Once we look at the results in the following paragraphs, we need to look closer at the safety professionals that take on work related stresses. Next, we need to ask how can stresses be reduced? Can we reduce stress with a forklift safety system? It is what keeps people safe and product from being damaged. Let’s take a closer look.
Reduce Stress with a Forklift Safety System
Let’s first take a look at the results of the study. The study focused on two aspects. The first is the job strain the and the second is effort-reward imbalance. The Safety and Health Magazine summed it up the best:
- High Job Strain had an 83% greater risk of A-fib later in life as compared to those who were not affected by identified stressors
- Those who believed that there was an effort-reward imbalance had a 44% greater risk compared to those who were not affected by the imbalance
- If you combined both the high job strain and the imbalance together, the result showed a 97% increase risk of A-fib.
Safety professionals are considered a white collar profession, however, they end up doing manual work in order to keep the operation running safely and smoothly. Because of their field of study, they can spot safety issues that affect workers and the health of the facility as well. The solutions that are put in place help to reduce to stress of the safety professional, but not all are approved by management. Most times its due to the cost of the solution and the stressors put back on to the safety professional to try to cost justify the investment.
With the advancements in technology, let’s see how we can reduce stress with a forklift safety system.
Forklift Safety System
As we are well aware, forklift accidents including injuries and fatalities are in the top 5. That’s not including the cost incurred with damages to the facility and other equipment. As we reported last week, the OSHA Act has leveled out since 2010, meaning the fatalities and injuries haven’t decreased. Instead, it has stayed the same. The only way to correct this is with a forklift safety system with AI based technologies.
This technology has the ability to know what is a human and what is an object. Based on what is within its defined path, it will warn the driver with an audio and visual alert with what it is that’s in the path. This allows the forklift operator to take action to keep people safe.
Do you think this can reduce the stress for the safety professional? Do you think workers will feel safer and keep morale and productivity high?
