Protecting a Pole from a Forklift Impact Created Another Problem
A new customer of SIERA AI was discussing in greater detail, why they needed an AI forklift safety system. A large manufacturer with locations in various parts of the country began to experience various damages within the facility. But there was one facility that had more impacts with the facility than the others. It was obvious where the impacts were occurring as the poles, that support the ceiling, roof and the building as a whole, was being hit and ultimately compromised. They decided that protecting a pole from a forklift impact was the way to go. But it created a new problem.
Protecting a Pole from a Forklift Impact
The customer took extensive measures to protect the poles in the facility. They went as far as purchasing iron fencing around the poles to keep them from forklift impacts. They hired a company to install the iron fencing ensuring it wouldn’t move with concrete. Now they were ready to start again. No sooner than a couple days past, the fencing around the poles were being struck. Protecting a pole from a forklift impact worked to ensure the integrity of the structure, but now the manufacturer had another problem. The forklifts were experiencing from moderate to extensive damage. It created a new problem.
Is there Anything that Can Protect… Everything?
The customer began their search trying to find something to protect whatever they can from damages. They came across SIERA AI and was interested in how this AI technology can help them with their costly damages.
After showing them how the system works along with the Dashboard, it was immediate that they knew what they had to do to gain control of the facility. They chose a combination of the S2 Impact Detection and OSHA compliance forklift safety system and the S3 Pedestrian Detection. Because of the flexibility and scalability of our solution, they are able to use both systems as it is a single system.
What Went Where?
The manufacturer decided to place the S3 on the forklifts that traveled around the poles most often, and the S2 on the remainder of the forklifts. The S3 began its work as soon as the AI forklift safety system was installed. It was turned on, the digital inspection completed and now it began to watch every 60ms for people and objects. When it got too close to the pole (the customer defined how close) and the forklift safety system warning alarm and flashing on the system began to go off. Now they understood how close or how far they needed to be from the poles. After the first day, the forklift operators were asked about their experience with the forklift safety system. They said they were surprised how close they were. Most stated that they are focused on getting the job done that they didn’t think about poles. Now they know that protecting a pole from a forklift impact has a significant impact on their work, the equipment and the facility itself and what that means to the bottom line profits of the company.
