Companies that Received the Most Violations According to OSHA 2022
The most recent OSHA News Release calculated the top company OSHA violators in 2022. The results were quite interesting, especially since the top violators were the cheapest retail stores. However, we won’t put the full blame on them, the OSHA news release also reported a vehicle parts manufacturer amongst the top OSHA violator as well. Let’s take a look at some of the details outlined in the OSHA news release. But first…
What is an OSHA News Release?
Throughout the course of the year, OSHA creates and sends out through the newswire service an OSHA news release that reports on calculated findings on safety whether it be in commercial, industrial or office. When violations are made, they report on it. When statistics are updated, they share the new information with businesses or the general public. All information is easily accessed on the OSHA website, or simply search on the Internet and you’ll get the latest results.
Vehicle Parts Manufacturer
This company has had issues more than just 2022. In 2021, the company was cited for injuries in its Ohio facility and had a fatality in the same location in 2020. It seemed their safety issues could be easily solved with installing machine guards and training on simple lock out – tag out procedures. They also conducted maintenance without having energy control procedures in place. This cost the company $800k in penalties in 2022 and $1.6M in 2021.
The Dollars Rule the Violations
Dollar Tree together with merger company Family Dollar racked up over 800+ violations since 2017. The violations include unstable stacks of merchandise and unsafe walking conditions to name a few. The OSHA news release discussed how employees were the ones reporting many of the violations including wet floors from water coming in from the roofing system. Unfortunately, they had numerous willful and repeat violation that has cost the company in the millions.
The other dollar is Dollar General which showed up seven times over the past 10 months on the OSHA news release page. They exposed workers to falling boxes or blocked emergency exit door. Again, employees were diligent with reporting unsafe practices. Due to these three company practices, they remain on the Severe Violation Program.
Severe Violation Program
The OSHA news release discussed that being on the severe violation program the companies listed (and not listed) will be subject to mandatory inspections and all information will be released to the public. This type of information can certainly tarnish the reputation of these companies. They can only be removed if they show 3 years of safety and that all violations have been tended to.
