Will the Forklift Shutdown Upon Impact
Forklift shutdown is a request that we frequently get asked for especially when there is an impact. However, to completely shut down right there and then isn’t necessarily practical. Sometimes you need 10, 15 or even 20 seconds to move the forklift from an open area where others can get hurt to a more secure space to keep business productive and other safe. But is that the only time a forklift shutdown can occur? There are others as well. Let’s find out.
What is Forklift Shutdown?
A forklift shutdown can simply mean the process for turning the forklift off especially when not in use. However, with the latest technologies, a forklift shutdown can also mean impacts, an unauthorized user, a forklift operator whose certificate is expired or a forklift that failed inspection.
Shutdown Upon Impact
A forklift impact is one of the most common reasons for a forklift shutdown. Especially if it is a high impact, meaning damage has been caused and/or a person is seriously injured. The forklift will shut down with a forklift safety system. Now it depends on your settings in the telemetry Dashboard if you want the forklift shutdown to occur during a medium or low impact. Depending on what the forklift is moving or carrying, you may want the forklift to shut down.
Will the Forklift Shutdown Happen Immediately?
Depending on the forklift safety system you purchase, the SIERA.AI forklift safety system gives you the ability to choose the length of time you want so you can move the forklift to a safe space. You can set it for whatever seconds is best for your facility layout…10, 18, 31… it’s up to you.
Unauthorized User Shut Down
There’s always someone trying to hop on a forklift. It’s very enticing to see it sitting there…just one quick ride. Right? If a forklift safety system is installed like a SIERA.AI safety system, then if a person tries to start the forklift, it won’t start. In order to start the forklift, the forklift operator needs to sign into the forklift safety system with either his badge or a PIN number. The system will not start if this isn’t completed.
Certificate is Expired!
A forklift operator needs to be certified in order to operate a life truck. But if you have more than one forklift operator, which you probably do, then the certificate expiration dates will vary. How can you keep on top of it so you’re not needing to manage a manual spreadsheet? The SIERA.AI forklift safety system allows you to enter in their credentials…and that’s it. The system will take it from there and manage the expiration dates. You’ll get notified 30 days in advance that these particular forklift operator’s certificates are expiring. Then one week before the actual expiration date, you’ll be reminded again, or the operator will not be able to do his job.
Failed Forklift Inspection
Due to the serious nature of a forklift inspection failure, it’s critical to be notified as soon as a forklift failure occurs. In other words, the forklift shutdown will remain shut down. The forklift will not start if the forklift inspection isn’t complete. Add the random questions and answers and it is for certain that the quality of the data captured will be better and more credible. Once the forklift driver logs in, and is accepted…and completes the forklift inspection accurately….and passes, then the forklift driver can move the forklift and begin their day.
If the forklift doesn’t pass, the telemetry Dashboard will notify the manager(s) so action can be taken to avoid a long term forklift shutdown.
