Forklift Safety System Provide Tailored Training
Toward the end of 2024, the State of Safety Training Survey was released, and EHS Today wrote an article on its results. About 5,000 safety professionals responded to the survey and provided some good insights that can be beneficial to your training program. One of the survey results was evident about what type of training people want today. That is blended training, a combination of on-site, video, and on-line courses. That is great and it will definitely help with retention of information being shared. However, is the safety training still too general in nature, meaning is it giving them what they want and need, or do seasoned forklift operators need to go through the basic training again and again. How can a forklift safety system provide tailored training for forklift operators. Let’s take a closer look.
Technology Up’s the Training Game
Even with the combination of training, the survey still shows a clear path to digital training. In addition, the article discusses how generative AI will play a larger role in training as a more engaging way to conduct training as it makes it more realistic. This is great especially for those that are new to forklift driving. It will give them the opportunity to learn in a riskless environment while gaining behind the controls training. But what about those that have been driving. Do they need the same training? In some instances, maybe yes, but in other instances, probably not. So how does a forklift driver get better? The forklift safety system provides tailored training to hone in on certain skills.
The AI Forklift Safety System Dashboard
An AI forklift safety system is a collision avoidance system that identifies people and objects differently and separately. The S3 AI forklift safety system’s intelligent camera is constantly monitoring and collecting data on its environment. Things like impacts, near misses and how many objects and pedestrians came within the safety zone of the forklift. All of this data is then sent to a telemetry Dashboard where the graphics based system is putting the data into easy to read graphics for easy and fast decision making. The real-time Dashboard gives you what you need for improved training.
Results
Let’s take for instance near misses. Near misses are those ‘almost an accident’ which are your precursors to an actual forklift accident. Let’s take a look at what you can find out:
- Analyze which worksite has the most near misses, then which asset and driver. Maybe there’s an asset that is having problems. You have multiple drivers assigned to that lift truck and near misses are commonplace. Or maybe a particular driver is having some issues.
- Now you can also identify where the near misses are occurring with our heat map reports. This will identify the ‘where’ the near misses are occurring. Now you can make changes.
All of this information combined will tell you ‘who’ is having the issue, and what part of the facility it is in. The combination of this information will give you the information you need to make a tailored program for the forklift operator to get better at a particular skill. Now apply what we talked about in the article above to ensure the operator gets the best training possible and overcomes their weakness. This now helps the driver to be better at their job.
