Real-Time Notification with Critical Data for Forklift Impacts
Forklift impact sensors are a critical part of the digital forklift inspection process. It is one of the first ways a facility manager or EHS manager can get the first glimpses of what goes on in a manufacturing, warehouse or distribution center. Forklift impact sensors can capture and report real-time impacts when an event occurs. How can this information ‘impact’ your facility? Let’s take a look.
What are Forklift Impact Sensors?
Forklift impact sensors are the devices that measure and record when the forklift, reach truck or other mobile equipment has an impact. That is their job. From here, the system takes over and interprets if
the impact is a low, medium or high impact.
Settings for an Impact
Settings are important as you want to know how many of each impact you are receiving at any given period of time. Within the telemetry Dashboard you will set what you want as a G force. The G force, which we’ve discussed before is as such: 1 G = 22 MPH. Once you enter in your criteria, the system is ready to go. If, after a few days or weeks, you decide you want to lower or higher the criteria in the Dashboard, go ahead and change it. The changes will take effect immediately.
One more step to go before you start. Notifications.
Notifications
Notifications are an important part of keeping you informed. You can set ‘when’ you would like to be notified of an impact. Meaning, choose if you want to be notified for every low, medium and high impact. Or do you want to only be notified with high impacts. Once you make your decision, enter it into the telemetry Dashboard and now you’re ready to get started. But wait, what if you want others to get notifications as well, such as the Maintenance Manager. No problem. You can add as many as contacts as you want to receive notifications.
Let’s Count!
Once your lift trucks complete the pre-shift forklift inspection, your forklift safety system is ready to count. Each time a single forklift has an impact, it automatically reports it in the telemetry Dashboard.
The Dashboard will keep track of all impacts, provide notifications on the impacts you are most interested in receiving, and drill deeper into an impact.
For instance, let’s say you want to view all of your medium level impacts. You’ll view a full list of medium impacts where you can choose the one you want to view. The system will give you an easy to read e-
report that shows the:
- Severity impact
- Worksite the event occurred
- Time of day
- Asset that was involved
- Forklift operators name
- Impact value or the G’s
- Vehicle Location
- Operator picture (Turns on/off) to know what the operator was doing at the time of impact.
Maintain OSHA Compliance
The forklift impact sensors are part of SIERA.AI’s forklift pre-shift inspection system. This is a great way to maintain OSHA compliance digitally. Before the forklift operator starts their shift, the operator will scan the QR code or enter a PIN number to identify who is on the forklift. The SIERA.AI forklift safety system will automatically identify if the operator’s certificate is valid. If it is, questions will guide the operator through the forklift inspection process. Again, if a forklift fails inspection, the notification system will let you know in real-time.
