Forklift Collision Accident Causes PA Man’s Demise
A Forklift collision can occur when it’s between a forklift and a person or another object such as racking system, another forklift or the facility itself. In the March 2022 recent news report, a forklift collision occurred between two forklifts and a 61 year old man was caught in in the middle. Unfortunately, he sustained serious injury and passed away the following day.
Caught Between Two Forklifts
About a year ago, SIERA.AI filmed a forklift collision. Well, okay, it was staged so they didn’t actually collide, however, we demonstrated how easy it is for a forklift collision to occur.
Forklift drivers are tasked with meeting a quota each day. This helps management measure their productivity to ensure customer orders are fulfilled on time. Their focus is on getting the job done. Which is what they want them to do. As speed and efficiency is of the essence, it’s critical that they have the right tools to help them do their job…and their manager as well.
Forklift Collision Tool: for the Operator
One of the best tools is a forklift collision detection system. Now there are a few different types out there, however, we of course, recommend the AI machine learning safety system by SIERA.AI. Here’s why:
- Each system works independently. Meaning it’s monitoring and capturing information from each individual forklift regardless of forklift location. There’s nothing hanging from the racking systems or walls, everything is contained to the forklift.
- All captured data is collected in real-time into a single online telemetry Dashboard (see below)
- The driver needs to know the difference between a person and an object
- Partial detection of a pedestrian such as a foot, hand or head is critical when exposed from behind an object
- Notifies the driver with both visual and audio cues
- Set the distance to whatever you want: 4’3”, 5’, 10’8” that’s your choice
- It works on any manufacturer’s lift truck
Forklift Collision Tool: For the Manager
This is the part managers have been waiting for: information. Now it’s true that there are other telemetry systems out there. We received feedback. Many have shared the difficulty of getting to the information, setting up the telemetry system, and it’s simply too much. These were the most commonly shared. That’s why SIERA.AI created our telemetry Dashboard so it:
- Clearly tells you of any non-OSHA compliant forklifts
- Reports on near misses in total down to the individual forklift with distances
- Reports on impacts (low, medium and high) based on your settings
- Photos of drivers (optional)
- Reports and photos of forklift access control
- Real-time notifications of any forklift failures, near misses, impacts (usually high, up to you) and forklift access control to the various managers that need to get the information
The SIERA.AI S3 Pedestrian Detection System will give you all of the above and more. Let’s get you on the right track with safety by getting started with a demo. Once you see it, you’ll believe it. Contact us any time to get started at sales@siera.ai.
