Does Your Facility Need More Noise?
Electric forklift noise safety. Facility professionals try to find ways to reduce noise in the facility. Sometimes even with reductions, facility managers still require employees to wear ear protection. But there’s no going around the issue of noise. Noise competes with other noise in the facility, which means louder and louder the noise level goes. As electric forklifts were introduced and widely adopted due to the elimination of gas fumes and low noise, now, there’s a problem with not enough noise. They are too quiet. Travis Perkins partnered with the University of Salford to test and study acoustics for an evidence-based study into the development of electric forklift noise safety sound alerts. Is this worth the effort? Is there another way?
What is Electric Forklift Noise Safety?
Electric forklift noise safety takes into consideration the amount of noise necessary for people who work around or near forklifts to hear a forklift nearby. However, this is more of a reactive solution. Meaning, that a potential constant beeping sound, or a sensor can trigger a beeping sound in order to alert people around the forklift that there is danger or a hazard nearby.
Can a Forklift Safety System Help?
A forklift safety system is a proactive solution. SIERA.AI’s forklift safety system is an AI based proactive solution that alerts the driver first. The system automatically scans every 60m in search of people or objects. If it identifies a person or an object in its path, it will alert the driver with an audio alert and a visual alert. The audio alert is a beeping noise that both the driver and pedestrian can hear. However, due to the amount of noise in the facility, we also use a visual alert in tandem. The visual alert is a flashing symbol of a person to let the driver know a person is nearby. If it is an object, then the visual alert is a symbol of a box that lets the driver know an object is also within a hazard zone or space.
Which One is Best?
That’s up to you. If you choose not to have a forklift safety system that works to keep you OSHA compliant, tracks impacts, pedestrian proximity detection and a telemetry Dashboard to track all of the movement and impacts, then get the noise maker for the electric forklift noise safety device. If you are going to be making an investment anyway, then a little bit more goes a long way and a forklift safety system is the best solution for your facility.
