Can Digital Inspections be Completed on Any Type of Mobile Equipment?
Digital inspection for mobile equipment can be implemented on anything that is moving in or out of the facility. We have been asked this question numerous times by prospects or even show attendees. Of course, digital inspection for mobile equipment doesn’t mean it can only occur on anything mobile, it can also include machinery, fire extinguishers, boilers, HVAC…anything that needs to be inspected to ensure proper working order. However, for the purpose of this article…and the length of the article, we’ll stick with digital inspection for mobile equipment.
What is Digital Inspection for Mobile Equipment?
A digital inspection for mobile equipment is the ability to get a clear picture of mobile equipment’s maintenance and repair needs in order to manage and eliminate downtime of any mobile equipment. Mobile equipment can include heavy machinery, forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, golf carts anything that moves within or outside of the facility.
Eliminating Paperwork
According to OSHA, 1 in 7 fatalities occur in construction. But nobody likes to do paperwork. It’s everyone’s dream to eliminate paperwork. Paperwork is generally done quickly, thought of as a nuisance and is pointless, especially if its not used. And many times, it isn’t used as it just gets inserted into a binder and sits on the shelf. What good does that do if you can’t use the information?
Mobile Equipment Access Control
Digital inspection for mobile equipment eliminates paper and digitizes the process and its reporting. But one of the most important things it does is restrict access on any type of mobile equipment. To begin, the operator needs to use their badge to identify themselves or enter in a PIN number. The badge and/or PIN identifies that person as an authorized driver for the mobile equipment. However, the equipment won’t start just yet. The next step is to complete the mobile equipment inspection. Once this is done, then the mobile equipment is ready to go…only if it passes inspection.
Mobile Equipment Inspection
Once the inspection process begins it will ask the standard OSHA inspection questions. Now, you can change the wording, edit the answers, add more questions or eliminate others. All this can be done in the telemetry Dashboard. In addition to editing, you can also flip the toggle switch in the Dashboard that says that you want the questions to be randomized and you can also flip the toggle switch in the Dashboard that says you want the answers to be randomized as well. This keeps the operators on their toes with answering questions eliminating any pencil whipping that may have occurred in the past.
Notification
Not every inspection goes as smooth as you want. There are times when the mobile equipment inspection fails. What happens next? Notification. Who do you want to be notified when the equipment fails inspection…safety manager, facility manager, maintenance manager? Everyone? Whatever is your preference, you can set the S2 digital inspection to alert one, two or ten people of the failed inspection. This way you can get on the issue and keep downtime to a minimum.
