Assess Risk by Using an AI Forklift Safety System
There was an article in ISHN that had a guest author who worked at the Kennedy Space Center. The writer discussed his experiences and took for granted the number of years of success the program had until the space shuttle blew up. I’m sure you either remember watching it on TV or learned about it later on. It gave the author pause and learned how to assess risk with even more discipline of “…continuous learning, adaption, application, and engagement.” How can we assess risk in our own facilities by using an AI forklift safety system?
What are the Risks
In the article, it explains that there are all types of leaders, and not everyone holds all the risk. Every person on the space shuttle mission project held an element of risk in order to ensure safety of the space shuttle and the people in it. The same holds true for safety professionals and their forklift fleet operators. As the safety professional you are a leader, but so are each of the forklift operators. Each of you hold levels of risk. Forklift operators hold risk every time they begin to move a lift truck. Safety professionals hold the responsibility of the risk and try to decide how to reduce it to keep people and even the facility safe.
Vigilance
The article discusses vigilance as constantly responding to ‘shifting circumstances, technology advancements and operational pressures’. This means staying on top of the safety landscape including the AI forklift safety system technology. It’s asking you to research it, understand it and how it applies to your facility. But it asks to bring others along with you in this journey. Meaning, show the AI forklift safety system to your forklift operators so they understand it’s not a ’big brother’ situation, but technology that acts as the main watcher in safety and the alert to keep you safe.
Accountability
The second area the article discusses is accountability. Are you and your forklift operator team accountable for safety? Did you all decide that an AI forklift safety system can allow you to focus on getting the job done while allowing the system to do what it does best…watch and warn? Are the forklift operators using the Notes feature in order to communicate additional details from their time during the shift? Everyone trusts each other and the system to keep them and others safe.
Proactive Measures
The next area the article goes into is proactive measure. It discusses going beyond basic safety as what OSHA requires. That’s again where we shine. An AI forklift safety system is proactive as it warns the driver that a person or object is within its defined path. This allows for plenty of time and opportunity to diffuse the unsafe situation. All of this information is documented in our forklift safety system so you can monitor, capture, track, and make decisions that keep everyone well and safe.
