Getting to the Bottom of an Impact to Prevent Damages in the Facility
Can AI forklift prevent accidents? Let’s first take a look at some of the issues safety professionals face each day in the facility using the current traditional methods of forklift safety. Forklift professionals frequently cite damages found around the facility. They ask the operators about the found damage, even going as far as matching the damage to a forklift. When approached on the subject, it is a common answer to hear, “I didn’t do it. It wasn’t me.” How can it be proven? At this point it can’t. To prove the point doesn’t necessarily mean the forklift driver needs to be removed, it may only mean better, more tailored training. However, it the forklift driver has numerous offenses, then the operator should be removed. How can you find that out?
There are two approaches a forklift professional can take with an AI forklift prevent accidents to help solve this situation.
Approach 1: SIERA.AI S2 with Impact Detection
There are many aspects to the S2 with Impact Detection. In this situation we’re only going to discuss how you can get the ‘proof’ to know exactly what happened in the situation so the appropriate action can be taken.
There are three levels of impacts: low, medium and high. However, you only want to know or be notified when a medium and high impact occur. As the day and months go by, the forklift safety system is tracking all impacts made for every driver when the forklift is being used. When an impact is made, those needing to know about an impact will automatically be notified. But, it is also being tracked within the telemetry Dashboard. It’s keeping count on how many impacts were made for low, medium and high, and it is also tracking ‘who’ was involved in the impacts.
But you also want to know what was going on during that time of the impact. In the back of the telemetry Dashboard, you, as the safety professional can turn on the feature that take a picture at the same time the impact happened. Meaning, the picture is taken of the driver. This is where the safety professional can ‘see’ what was going on during the impact. Was the driver looking at the phone, in another direction or something else. Now you know and have the proof.
If this person is potentially a frequent offender, now you’ll have the proof to know what decisions need to be made on behalf of the driver in order to keep the driver safe and reduce the damages done in the facility causing the company unnecessary money for repairs. A great way that AI forklift prevent accidents.
Approach 2: S3 Pedestrian Detection
The difference between the S2 and the S3 is that the S3 AI forklift prevent accidents. It is designed to warn the operator prior to the incident getting too close to even occur. When the operator is out doing their job, the intelligent cameras are constantly scanning every 60ms searching for that person or object in the way of the forklift. When that occurs, the operator will receive an audio and visual warning that something is within their path of movement. The difference is that the operator will know if it’s a person with a symbol, or an object with a symbol of a box. This feature does double duty: protect the pedestrians and protect the product and the facility itself.
Now the operator has that chance to move and take corrective action.
