Are a Daily and Weekly Inspection Sheet Different?
Here’s a question on weekly forklift inspection sheet. If you use a daily forklift inspection sheet, do you need to use a weekly forklift inspection sheet? I know some of you are stating the answer, ‘No’, and some are saying, ‘It Depends’, and a small percentage is saying ‘Yes’. That’s because it all depends on your situation. But the challenge is for those who say, I need a daily forklift inspection sheet and a weekly forklift inspection sheet because of the lift trucks being used. Well, that becomes very cumbersome and potentially confusing. How can this be straightened out?
What is a Weekly Forklift Inspection Sheet?
Inspection sheets are a vital part of keeping the lift trucks healthy. As lift trucks can be used 24 x 7, keeping forklifts free from downtime is critical to the operations of the facility. How can fleet managers, safety managers and maintenance professionals ensure peak performance? Daily and maybe even weekly forklift inspection sheets. The purpose of these inspection sheets is to capture information on the health and effectiveness of the lift trucks. Is there a difference in the sheets? And how can they be more effective than all of the paper being accumulated?
Are Daily and Weekly Inspection Sheets Useful?
Let’s first discuss the sheets. Most would define the difference in forklift inspection sheets by the use. If you use your forklifts on a continual basis, then daily inspections or pre-shift inspections are more useful. That’s because the assets are in constant use and the likelihood of an issue increases. However, if you only use it a few times a week, then a weekly inspection sheet will be sufficed. However, a weekly inspection sheet on highly used forklifts can be instrumental, especially if you are asking questions on items not normally checked. However, keeping all of this on paper creates a pile of binders that may not get the chance to be used in a way it needs to be.
Digital Daily and Weekly Forklift Inspections
Now let’s talk about how to take the information useful. Paper based inspections on more than one or two machines is difficult to track. However, if it moves to digitization, there are numerous benefits. Let’s explore:
- No more pencil whipping! We all know this term as we’ve all experienced it. A forklift operation doesn’t want to take the time to complete the forklift inspection. They hurry up and check mark the boxes without even reading the questions. Now with digital, not only do they need to answer the questions, but the forklift inspection needs to pass. If neither of these two are done or passed, the forklift inspection a not completed.
- Collection and presentation of ‘like’ data. This means in a telemetry Dashboard, like data is tabulated so you can track where issues are developing. The data can be shown any way you like including more standard showings such as by day, month, year, quarterly or any timeframe you would like to analyze.
- Identify assets that need repair or scheduled maintenance. This will help you keep your forklift trucks in good working order so downtime is minimal or non-existent.
- Know how many failed inspections and which forklifts this is happening to
- Identify where the problem is quickly so it can be attended to without incurring further expense
