If you have followed some of our e-newsletters, SIERA.AI reports each week on forklift accidents. In 2022, we’ve had plenty of unique ones to discuss. These include:
- Parents going into work over the weekend bringing their young children. Children found the forklift fun to play on, and one brother accidentally killed the other by rolling over him with the lift truck.
- Kids finding their way into a yard after hours. The kids got the forklift started and performed many acrobatic feats….until the forklift tipped over killing the youth instantly.
- Forklift operator was too close to the edge of the dock and rolled right off of the edge.
- An employee decided to hitch a ride on the forklift in order to get to the destination faster. Well, that didn’t work out when the forklift tipped over.
Solution to Forklift Safety System
SIERA.AI has a simple solution so these types of situations don’t happen to you. Of course, it is required that you maintain OSHA compliance. The best way to achieve OSHA compliance is to digitize the paper-based process.
Another part of the forklift safety system is to stop unauthorized access to the forklift. If this was implemented two children would have been saved in the above examples.
Pedestrian and object detection can save the lives of those working around forklifts as well as alert the operator when either a pedestrian or object is nearby.
If these are not currently part of your everyday forklift safety solution, then it’s time to get started so your 2023 is safe. Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll get #7 out of the 10 top list.
