Reduce Forklift Damage Costs Like a SIERA.AI Customer
It seems like a tall order to be able to reduce forklift damage costs. That’s because the workers or forklift operators either don’t report the damage, or they minimize the damages caused by the forklift. If you only knew what was going on so you can make the appropriate changes to make the facility safer and cause less damage whether it be to the forklift itself or to the product sitting on the shelves. We’re going to share a story a customer recently shared with us.
Reduce Forklift Damage Costs
One of our customers needed to get their damages under control. The damage was being caused by the forklift onto other equipment and to the facility itself. They had no idea who was causing the damage. Was it a single driver or was it all of the drivers. The challenge was that nobody admitted to causing the damage. What makes it even more challenging was that the drivers were not reporting the damages, the safety professionals were finding it as they passed through the facility.
Forklift Impact Detection
The customer purchased the SIERA.AI S2 Digital Inspection with Impact Detection forklift safety system. Right now, we’re going to focus on the impact detection piece of the customer story. The company wanted the forklift impact detection for the specific purpose of understanding the movements, type of impacts, where the impacts were occurring, who was driving and what they need to do to reduce forklift damage costs. After the installation of the forklift safety system, the data collection began.
The Results
The company was able to determine in the SIERA.AI telemetry Dashboard how many impacts were occurring. They placed their high impact setting on a 7/10 so they would get notifications for any impacts that reach a G-force of 7 or above. The medium and low impact calculations were collected and observed later. As soon as a high impact notification was sent in real-time, they were on the scene quickly. If the operator attempted to deny the impact, the forklift safety system took a picture of the driver in order to show ‘proof’ of who was operating the forklift at the time. In addition, the safety professionals were able to get to the exact location of the impact as the GPS provided its location.
A Question from the Customer – How Can I Be at Zero?
The customer asked a question during their weekly ‘check-in’ with their customer success manager and said. I got your report. I don’t understand why the impact numbers are going down. Reading this story, it may seem obvious to you, but to the safety professionals living with this problem day in and day out was wondering how the impact numbers could be going down only after a few months.
That’s what the forklift safety system is designed to do. By tracking the impacts and knowing who, which asset and when the impact occurs, the forklift operators took the extra step of becoming more cautious. This alone reduced the number of impacts, which took their damages down to Zero.
Their ROI was only a few months. An investment management was happy that they made.
