Do You Know How Many Forklift Inspections are Missed Each Day in Your Facility?
Forklift Inspections Checklists are often missed or incomplete by the forklift operator. How often? This statistic is clearly missing. It’s probably because it’s difficult to detect and track. And when it is detected, it’s too late.
How can you enforce a forklift inspection checklist in order to stay OSHA compliant? Digitally.
How Forklift Inspection Checklists are Done Today
Forklift inspections are most often done by hand, meaning a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. There’s been plenty of encouragement to get the forklift inspection completed as manufacturer’s supply checklist booklets or you can get a free download.
Forklift operators are often times in a hurry. They come into work and go right to the forklift to get started on their day. The statistics we don’t know are the following:
- How many forklift operators completed the entire forklift inspection?
- How many questions were missed?
- Because the forklift drivers know which questions are coming next, are they fully reading and checking?
- Are the forklift checklists handed in each day? Have any been misplaced?
- How many breakdowns could have been avoided with accurate and complete checklists?
If only the information wasn’t all on paper…
Digital Transformation: Paper to Digital Forklift Inspection Checklists
As we all know; the pandemic has escalated the transformation from paper-based processes into digital processes. Forklift inspections included.
At SIERA.AI we’ve been right on it with the S2 Digital Inspection with Impact Detection. We took the forklift inspection checklist and digitized it. We placed it in our web-based Dashboard. Why? This is the best way for you to go in, review your questions, make any modifications, add any new questions or delete questions…whenever or how often you want. You can also keep the questions static, or mix them up in a randomized order…ensuring each question is read.
Now that you have what information you want to collect to stay compliant with OSHA as well as provide the maintenance department with the most current information so they can plan scheduled service and maintenance, it’s time to get started.

Enforcing the Forklift Inspection
When the forklift operator is ready to begin work, the forklift driver will need to scan their badge or enter in a PIN. If they do not complete this step, the forklift will not move forward. And to jump ahead…
…If the forklift driver scans in their badge or enters in their PIN but fails to complete the forklift inspection checklist, they will receive a message to park the forklift as it will be coming to a complete stop. And it does.
The Forklift Driver Experience
The forklift operator experience is fast and easy. The operator enters in their PIN number or scans their badge on the tablet mounted on the forklift. It immediately brings up the checklist that is assigned to that driver and forklift. (Yes, this means you can have different checklists for different varieties of forklifts).
The forklift driver can easily and quickly answer the questions with thumbs up for yes and thumbs down for no. They can also enter in any notes and take a picture. Once done, press enter and the data goes directly into the Dashboard. If the forklift does not pass inspection, the manager or any managers will be notified in real-time.
Dashboard Telematics & Analysis
All that information from the forklift inspection checklist has now been captured in the same Dashboard where your checklists reside. Here you’ll be able to:
- Check the patterns for weaknesses in the forklift
- Understand the life of each of the forklifts so you can prepare any future purchases and know why
- Ensure parts are readily available for potential forklift repairs
- Know who and how often a particular forklift was used
- With forklift access control, you’ll know if any attempts to drive the forklift were made
- Know who, when and which forklift inspection attempted to be skipped or incomplete
- Know the safety score for each forklift or the entire fleet
- Which fleet of forklifts down to the individual forklift that failed an inspection as well as location
- Plus much more….
You can get a demo of the Dashboard as well as the S2 Digital Checklist today. Here’s a link to a couple of videos and afterwards, let us show you even more.
