What Can be Tracked with Forklift Telematics Data
Forklift telematics data says that forklift asset #3 had a medium impact. The medium impact triggered a notification to the forklift manager, and immediately the manager came down to the facility floor to find out what happened. Because the manager was on-site within a couple of minutes, the manager was able to see first hand the situation and know exactly what occurred before anyone decided to touch the ‘scene’. When asked what happened, the forklift operator said that it wasn’t their fault…even thought the forklift operator was the only one around the machine. When the manager checked the picture that it took of the operator, the manager saw that the operator was on their mobile phone. The manager knew what had to be done next. All this because of forklift telematics data?
What is Forklift Telematics Data?
Forklift telematics data is the result of collecting data during the course of the forklift’s shift with a forklift safety system. The forklift telematics data provides insights as to what is going on within the facility so good decisions can be made on the safety of the facility, its workers, equipment and product. This could be the collection from a forklift checklist, impacts pedestrian detections and/or object detections.
Failed or Passed
Capturing forklift telematics data means you’ll know if a forklift passed or failed its inspection in real-time. You can get a notification when a forklift failed so you can take action like the manager did in the beginning of the article. Keep track of the data captured on the failed inspections so you can work with maintenance on keeping your forklifts working well without any downtime.
Low, Medium and High Impacts
Collect impacts on each of your forklifts so you know of ay potential issues. This will help you to understand who, where and when the impacts are occurring. In addition, the system will also track how many low, medium and high impacts the forklift safety system is experiencing. You can uncover any types of patterns in order to determine if it’s an operator, or problem areas within the facility.
Let’s say for instance, there are numerous near misses and low impacts occurring at the end of aisle three. You will quickly be able to determine the pattern of ‘why’ this is occurring and fix the situation in order to reduce the risk. Once you are able to resolve the situation in the area, you will notice that your numbers are back to low based on tracking your numbers on the Dashboard.
Pedestrian and Object Detection
As the forklift moves about the facility, it will encounter pedestrians in its path, as well as objects. The forklift safety system will capture what it ‘sees’ and record it as it enters the defined ‘danger’ zone. These recordings are real time and give the managers the ability to understand the number of encounters and potential near misses due to how close the forklift is to a person or object. If the number is too many, then action can be taken to ensure a safe distance is made for the sake of safety.
