Gain Accuracy in Answers with Your Digital Forklift Maintenance
Just about everyone use rents, leases or owns a forklift truck uses some kind of forklift maintenance sheet whether it be for the propane, electric or gas for the daily pre-shift inspection, the 250 hour or the 2,000 hour maintenance check. Each forklift maintenance sheet is going to be slightly different due to the manufacturer. Now if you have 3 different manufacturers that are indoor and outdoor consisting of propane and electric, that can be anywhere from 8-10 different forklift maintenance sheets. Place each forklift maintenance sheet in a binder, and you can be as large as your local library. As you’ve made a considerable investment in these fleets of forklifts, is there a better way to maintain forklift checklists?
What is a Forklift Maintenance Sheet?
A forklift maintenance sheet is a way to track the health of the overall lift truck to ensure longevity of the truck in order to maximize the investment made. There are various components to check: engine, transmission and fuel system, exhaust and cooling system, wheels and axels, forks and attachments, steering and brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and safety devices.
Safety Devices
It is always good to check for safety devices on the forklift maintenance sheet as the seat belt, buzzer and horn are just a few to check. But what if you have a forklift safety system device to digitally check all this, and collect the data so you can analyze it… would that be worth it?
Some ask, “I don’t find that I’m saving time making the forklift maintenance sheet digital.” That would be a correct statement. You shouldn’t be looking to save time, but instead gain accuracy, forklift access management, analysis and more. Let’s take a look at each of these.
Gain Accuracy
What would it mean to you if you could get answers… good answers to your forklift maintenance sheet? Could it mean that you know with greater accuracy when to take the forklift out of commission? Or when to replace parts? Or eliminate any chance of downtime? Oil leaks or dead battery?
Set any section or sections of the digital forklift maintenance sheet or checklist and use the randomize toggle switch to mix up the questions. Now they have to read or they run the risk of failing the inspection. If they do, you’ll know within a second and can take immediate action.
Forklift Access Management
One thing that the piece of paper can’t do… keep an unauthorized person from starting the forklift. That includes forklift operators whose certification expired or a forklift operator who is not authorized to operate that particular type of forklift such as stand-up, or a turret truck.
Data Analysis
Once the data is captured from the forklift safety system, it is immediately uploaded in real-time into the telemetry Dashboard. Analyze the information that you collected in order to make informed decisions about your fleet.
Impact Detection
One aspect that we didn’t discuss that comes with the forklift safety system is impact detection. The forklift safety system automatically detects and in real-time, reports when an impact is made, whether it be a low, medium or high impact. You get to set the G-Force and set the notification. If you want to know all impacts, or just the high ones, that is up to you. The telemetry Dashboard will also track impacts so you can determine what is occurring and where it’s happening. Now you can gain more control over what’s going on in your facility.
