What is Automatic Logout on Your Mobile Equipment
Asset control with permissions or forklift access control is the most effective way to keep authorized and non-authorized people from safe within your facility during and after working hours. We’ve discussed asset control with permissions before, but we’re going to change it up and talk a bit more about automatic logout on the lift truck. What is it? What does it mean? And how does this particular feature help the forklift operator and manager both at the same time.
What is Asset Control with Permissions?
Asset control with permissions is the technology to manage all of the mobile equipment (such as forklifts) to determine if the individual attempting to use the equipment is authorized or not authorized. This can be controlled with a swipe of a badge or PIN number that will identify the operator, confirm that they are certified to be on the equipment and ensure the inspection is complete.
Automatic Logout
We’re going to discuss a feature for asset control with permissions first, as it is a feature we haven’t discussed in detail: Automatic Logout. When the forklift driver or mobile equipment driver is actively working through their daily task, the operator may want to exit the forklift, complete the task and get back on the forklift to continue. This can take a minute or a few minutes depending on your facility’s operation.
SIERA.AI offers that flexibility in a controlled manner. Here’s how it works. In the telemetry Dashboard, under settings, you’ll find Auto-Logout Settings. Simply toggle it to ‘on’ to allow the feature to operate. However, there are a couple more questions to answer.
Auto Log Out:
When do you want the system to logout before the operator needs to scan their badge or enter a PIN number? What is that period of inactivity? This can be set to minutes or even seconds. For example, in your operation, the forklift driver should rarely exit the forklift. So you may only want to give the operator 30 seconds. Or if your driver exits frequently but only for a minute or two, you can set it to 5 minutes. Some operations may allow their driver to exit for longer periods of time, so you can set it to 30 minutes. But you may not want this to go on indefinitely in a single shift.
Maximum Shift Hours:
This is where Maximum Shift Hours is important. This also requires the ‘toggle’ switch to be turned on. This next step or setting allows you to define what the maximum amount of hours are before the system automatically logs the operator out. If you define it to be 4 hours, or 8 hours or even a 12 hour shift, whatever you define to be a shift, set those hours and the forklift safety system will automatically log out.
Custom Logout Message
When the system is ready to logout, you can create your own message to the operator that will be seen after the thresholds have been met. For instance, “You’ve completed your 8 hour shift. We’ll see you again at your next scheduled shift. Thanks for being safe today.”
Summary
Forklift safety systems will continue to evolve to adapt to facility environments in a safe way. Maintaining asset control with permissions is vital to keeping your operator and pedestrians safe. Be sure to ask us about Auto Logout and how it can help your operation.
